SCDI COMMENT ON THE DRAFT SCOTTISH BUDGET

Commenting on today’s announcement of the Scottish Government’s draft budget, SCDI Chief Executive, Dr Lesley Sawers said:

“SCDI welcomes the continued priority for capital infrastructure investment, which is vital both for short-term economic stimulus and long-term sustainable economic growth. We have called for and support the extra funding for construction of new housing and making existing buildings more energy efficient.

“Youth unemployment is a major concern and additional funding for Scotland's colleges goes some way to rectifying the large cuts made to this sector in last year’s budget. Energy is an area of rich opportunity for the Scottish economy and the new Energy Skills Academy is an exciting proposal which SCDI look forward to working with through our network of Young Engineers and Science Clubs in schools across Scotland.

“This year's budget includes a further very significant reduction in lending to Scottish Water. Investment in water infrastructure enables sustainable development and supports the civil engineering sector in Scotland. SCDI will again seek reassurances that Scottish Water’s programme will be delivered."
