SCDI COMMENT ON UNION TERRACE GARDENS REFERENDUM RESULT

Commenting on the announcement that Aberdeen’s Union Terrace Gardens redevelopment has been approved in a public referendum on the issue, SCDI Regional Director, Ian Armstrong said:

“SCDI warmly welcomes the decision of the people of Aberdeen to back the redevelopment of the Union Terrace Gardens site. Their courage and vision in doing so marks a significant and important step towards the regeneration and revitalisation of Aberdeen city centre.

“SCDI members consistently tell us that a strong and vibrant heart to the city is an essential catalyst for retaining and attracting new investment into the region and the voters should be commended for recognising this and embracing the need for radical change.

“We would now urge the Council and Scottish Government to move swiftly to finalise the TIF business case and proceed to the detailed planning stage in a timely manner.”
